The challenge
A large Swiss-based pharmaceutical supplier operating across Europe and the rest of the world, supplying medical equipment at industrial scale.
The company required a portal allowing both new and existing clients to authenticate, browse inventory, manage carts and complete purchases. The system had to handle concurrent user traffic, process large payment volumes securely, integrate shipping and delivery operations, and migrate off a legacy platform without losing data.
Our approach
We built a custom platform to the client’s specification and migrated users, orders and associated data off the legacy infrastructure.
The catalogue was large enough that navigation and search were a build problem in their own right, not a design detail.
Technical implementation
- User, order and associated data migrated from a legacy platform.
- Mega menu navigation architecture for a large catalogue.
- Multiple custom content types alongside ecommerce products.
- Custom product options — AJAX load more, gated content, subscription features.
- Advanced search and filtering across the catalogue.
- Form-to-CRM integration via API for submitted data and orders.
Migrating orders and user accounts off a legacy platform is where this kind of project usually fails. Reconciling the migrated data against the source was treated as a deliverable, not a checkbox.
The outcome
What we learned
The advanced search work paid for itself. For a catalogue this size, customers abandoning because they cannot find a product is a bigger revenue risk than checkout friction.
